Distance: 1.6 miles
Time: 16 minutes - 10:00 mile
Weather: low 30's, windy, raining
School and Back
Fast and furious. I didn't want to go out, it's raining, crappy, and cold. But I did. Just for a little bit.
I'm thinking of paying one of the neighbor kids to come over tomorrow so I can get a longer run in. Then again, it's supposed to snow!

4/23/08 - 2 miles
Distance: 2 miles
Time: 21 minutes - 10:30 mile.
Weather: low 50's, windy, sunny.
Past the School and Back.
Dare I say it was a good run today? The hard part for me in getting back into it, is getting to a comfortable place. And by comfortable place, I mean it takes me a mile or two to get warmed up and then I'm 'comfortable' - or 'in the zone.' Right now, I feel like I'm fighting every step.
I went so far as to run with my ipod. Generally, once I get to the comfortable place, the music just distracts me, but right now, I need the distraction. Enough races now ban ipods/music devices that I don't want to get so used to using one, only not to have one on race day.
Today I ran to the school, and far enough past (I've measured this with my car more times than I care to count) to make it two miles - one out. One back. Again, could I have run farther - yes. Did I want to? No. I could tell the last two nights I slept much better given the increased activity.
Unfortunately my plan of running this weekend has been nixed, as my husband will be out of town. My new plan involves 3 or 4 on Friday, then take the kids on a bike ride or two over the weekend. Weather depending, of course!

4/21/08 - 1.6 miles
Distance: 1.6 miles
Time: 18 minutes - 11:30 minute mile.
Weather: low 50's, windy.
School and Back.
It has been a painfully long time since I've run. Granted, yesterday I rode my bike to the store for a few essentials, but it's just not the same.
Today's run was more to just get out there. I figure this week I'll run between 1.5 and 2, and go for 4 on Saturday. Could I have gone farther today? Sure. Did I want to? Not really.
I nixed the OKC Half. At this point, I would just hurt myself. Though frustrated, this long cold winter really kicked my ass.
Friday, I signed up for the Twin Cities Marathon on October 5th.
Training starts in earnest the first week in June. I'm using between now and then to get my weight down and my mileage up.
Part of that will include eating better and riding my bike for more errands. Today I need to take a couple packages to the post office, and rather than load up in the Suburban, I'll take my bike.
One day at a time. I'll get there.

Bad Runner
Friday was my 'off' day, so I took advantange and had my nails done.
My parents were here over the weekend, and I just couldn't make the time.
This week?
There is only preschool on Friday, so that nixes it until then.
My running occurs when all three kids are in school at the same time - my second grader is all day, my kindergartener goes in the morning, and Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings my daughter is in morning preschool.
It's not that I couldn't push her in the jogger, it's that I don't want to listen to her nag the whole way.
Excuses, excuses.
Maybe I'll hit the elliptical in the basement.

4/2/08 - 4 miles
Distance: 4 miles
Time: 52 minutes - steady as she goes 13 minute mile.
Weather: low 30's, snow and ice on the ground.
North Park Loop.
Pretty uneventful run, though the wind could be a little stiff. During today's run, I truly realized how far I've let my running slide. During the winter, I prefer to hibernate. Fortunately, spring is approaching and I should be out more.
For the most part, we have wonderful trails that are well maintained throughout the year. It's really nice to be able to go out and know that you don't have to share the road with vehicles.
The loop today consists of nearly two miles of straighaway following the road, then turning and cruising through the park. The mile of park path is quite senic with native grasses, a wandering brook, and asphalt trail. Much to my delight, the trail had been plowed since Monday's six inches of snow.
It was all well and good, until I came to the final little bit. There are two roads, one shares the pavement with cars, the other is a path through the houses.
Today, I took the road less traveled

I was going to call this...
Run, Fat Girl, Run. But it was already taken.
Today I received the news that, thank you very much for playing but, I wasn't chosen to participate in the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco.
It stings. It burns. It bothers me.
I know they can't hear the voice in my head saying, "You're just not good enough. You're too fat and slow."
But I hear it. Loud and Clear.
I have another blog where I talk mostly about my craft stuff. Right now, I need a place to talk about my running.
My current goal is to make it through the OKC half-marathon at the end of the month. It won't be pretty, but I'm going to do it. Notice I said, make it though.
It's a start.
